Despite the increasing insecurity in the state and the Northern area, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia gave corps members stationed there assurances of their safety on Friday.
The governor, who was represented by Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange, the state commissioner for youth, sports development, and creativity, emphasized that his administration has put policies in place to guarantee corps members’ safety during their duty in coordination with security authorities.
“Unfortunately, our country is currently plagued by security issues, and Benue State is not an exception,” he stated. Let me immediately calm your anxieties, though, and tell you that as a government, we are dedicated to making sure you are safe while visiting the state.
For the avoidance of doubt, our administration has implemented extensive protection measures to protect all sites and homes occupied by corps members in the state, working with all security authorities.
The NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program provides a gateway to big prospects, thus the governor encouraged the incoming corps members to make it a priority.
He further encouraged them to use their God-given talents, which had brought them this far, to shape the future of the country.
In her address, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs Veronica Garba, expressed appreciation to the governor and people of the state for their support of the organisation so far.
Garba charged the new corps members to embrace the four cardinal programmes of the orientation course, which include physical training, intellectual/motivational lectures, sporting activities, and SAED.
A total of 1,600 new corps members were inducted into the orientation course on Friday by Justice Peter Ukande, who represented the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Maurice Ikpambeae.
