Citing the necessity to put into effect a power-sharing arrangement reached between the two parties prior to the elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has replaced some of the candidates that the Kwankwasiyya faction in Kano State had previously submitted.
The modifications were made to reflect an earlier agreement on the distribution of party positions and elective tickets between the NDC structure and the Kwankwasiyya bloc, according to a document signed by the party’s Kano State Chairman, Hon. Hussaini Isah Mairiga, and obtained by Siyasarmu TV.
Seriake Dickson, the national leader of the party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, and Alhaji Muhammadu Rabi’u Sabo Bakinzuwo, the chairman of the NDC North-West Zonal, are said to have received copies of the document.
Barrister Dayyabu Jamilu Ibrahim for Doguwa/Tudun Wada, Nasiru Ali Ahmed for Nassarawa, Kabiru Ishaq Sa’id for Kano Municipal, Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar for Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa, Ibrahim Bashir Bango for Sumaila/Takai, and Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mairigar Fata for Gwale Federal Constituency.
Additionally, the party announced changes to its tickets for the State House of Assembly in the constituencies of Dala, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo, and Dawakin Kudu.
The Kwankwasiyya faction and the NDC had a standing agreement that elective positions and party offices would be divided 60/40, with the Kwankwasiyya bloc receiving 60% and the party structure keeping 40%, according to the NDC’s explanation of the decision.
According to the report, disagreements within the NDC were allegedly sparked by members of the leadership’s belief that the arrangement was not reflected in the distribution of tickets.
Speaking on the matter, Comrade Ibrahim Waya, the party’s spokesperson, stated that the modifications were made to safeguard the established formula and avoid internal conflicts.
The party leadership and Senator Kwankwaso came to an agreement regarding the 60-40 sharing formula. Waya stated, “The action was taken urgently to prevent a crisis within the party.”
As both sides continue to negotiate the distribution of positions ahead of the polls, the development is anticipated to increase political tensions within the nascent alliance.
