Muhammadu Buhari, the former president of Nigeria, would be remembered for his support of local government autonomy, according to Ladi Adebutu, the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 governorship candidate.
He claimed that Buhari’s support was evidence of his conviction that the people should regain control of their government and that grassroots governance should be strengthened.
In a sympathy letter for the former president’s dying on Monday, Adebutu made this statement.
The former head of state died on Sunday at the age of 81, according to the DAILY POST.
Adebutu said, “President Buhari was not just a leader, he was a symbol of excellence and sacrifice. His love for Nigeria was never in doubt. His integrity, simplicity, and austere lifestyle will be remembered for generations to come.
“He will also be remembered for his bold advocacy for local government autonomy, for which he gave a stern warning to all governors of the 36 states in alignment with the communique of a symposium on local government autonomy organized by Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu in 2021. This singular advocacy is a testament to his belief in strengthening governance at the grassroots and giving power back to the people as being advocated by Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu.
“As we reflect on his life and legacy, we pray for comfort for his family, loved ones, and indeed the entire nation. May the Almighty grant his soul peaceful rest and grant Nigeria the wisdom to continue building on the foundations he laid.”
Additionally, the Agba Akin Bobaniyi Akile Ijebu, Adebutu, and the Asiwaju of Odogbolu lamented the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale and the paramount ruler of Ijebuland.
Soon after Muhammadu Buhari’s death, the supreme monarch passed away on Sunday at the age of 91.
“Kabiyesi was royalty in its purest, most noble form; he was not merely a traditional ruler,” he stated. He ruled with courage, knowledge, and an unwavering dedication to justice and truth for more than six incredible decades. His throne served as the country’s moral compass in addition to being a place of culture and heritage.
Adebutu characterized his departure as an irreplaceable loss for Yoruba land, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole, in addition to Ijebuland.
