Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved a major expansion of the environmental law enforcement body, LAGESC (popularly known as KAI).
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed that the Governor and the State Executive Council approved the recruitment of 1,400 additional officers into the Corps.
This decision is part of an effort to achieve a “Cleaner Lagos” by boosting the state’s capacity to crack down on poor environmental practices. The new recruits will focus on enforcing environmental laws, preventing illegal waste dumping, controlling street trading in restricted areas, and promoting overall responsible waste management.
Basically, Lagos is deploying a massive wave of new KAI officers to police the environment—because apparently, the existing team wasn’t quite intimidating enough to stop the indiscipline.
