LaLiga seals five spots in 2025/2026 Champions League

In the upcoming season, La Liga will join the Premier League in advancing five clubs to the Champions League.

The second of the additional spots for club performance across the three European competitions was earned by the Spanish top division on Thursday night.

A European Performance Spot, or EPS, which was implemented last season as part of a change to make the Champions League a 36-team competition, will be awarded to two leagues.

On April 8, England confirmed their additional spot.

After Athletic Club eliminated Rangers from the Europa League and Lazio also tumbled out, Spain was certain of finishing in the top two.

The Premier League’s race for the top five is extremely close. Manchester City (55) is in fifth place, Nottingham Forest (57) is in fourth, and Newcastle United (59) is in third. Aston Villa (54) and Chelsea (54) are positioned outside of those locations.

Villarreal (51, with a game in hand) and Real Betis (48) are vying for fifth place in La Liga, while the top four teams are in firm control. A further five points separate Mallorca and Celta Vigo.
