Public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu criticized US President Donald Trump for threatening military action in Nigeria under the guise of protecting Christians. In an X post, Shehu called Trump a “war monger” and accused America of hypocrisy regarding religion, morality, human rights, and democracy. He labeled Trump’s defense of persecuted Nigerian Christians as mere “faith pretence and hypocrisy,” adding that there is “no better pretender” than America and its “blood-thirsty Hollywood actor, Trump.” Shehu stated the US interferes in other nations’ affairs despite failing to manage its own internal terror and daily killings. He accused the US of creating a “false sense of concern” abroad. Shehu alleged America promotes global instability, claiming that since 1945, the US has killed millions of Christians via direct action or proxies, not “in Jesus’ name,” but for “selfish and sadistic motives.” He claimed the US exports a unique brand of democracy to Africa, pretends to care about human rights while supporting monarchies elsewhere because “crude oil is sweet and arms sales are profitable.” Shehu further alleged America shelters stolen funds from weaker nations while blaming them for poor development. The activist warned Trump’s defense of Christians could ignite religious conflict in Nigeria. He predicted US drones and warplanes, while hunting terrorists, would “end up targeting Islamic clerics, Muslim-dominated settlements, mosques, and madrasas.” Shehu argued America’s true goal is to destabilize Nigeria, destroy it as a regional power, install puppets, rule by proxy, and exploit its natural resources. He compared America’s role to its actions in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iran, concluding that recalling these events makes one see America as the “Devil Incarnate.” He included a picture of Trump in court, alleging it was for “inciting criminal violence and undermining democracy.” He finished his post with, “The devil is a liar.”
