Former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele has chosen Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain as the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, bypassing Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
According to the former France international, Yamal is still a child and needs to establish himself.
Among the leading candidates for this year’s Ballon d’Or are Yamal and Dembele.
Makelele responded as follows (via Diario AS) when asked who he thought should receive the top individual prize: “Dembele.” Lamine still has a longer time horizon to establish himself.
“Ousmane got started first. Lamine, if we give it to the child… (laughs).
“He must demonstrate more. Let him be; he is a talented child. Avoid beating him up.
Last season, Dembele and Yamal both had strong seasons for their teams.
Yamal won La Liga and Copa del Rey with Barcelona, whereas Dembele won the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and French Cup with PSG.
