Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has cautioned village leaders, also called Baales, and compound heads, also called Mogajis, against stealing land and disobeying family elders.
He issued this warning on Monday when installing two village leaders and nine compound guards in his palace in Oke-Aremo, the capital of Oyo State, Ibadan.
In a statement released Tuesday in Ibadan, his chief press secretary, Gbenga Ayoade, also cautioned them to make sure that peace is paramount in their areas since without it, no significant progress can be made.
Raimi Edujobi from Edujobi village in the Egbeda Local Government and Morakinyo Fagbemi from Fagbemi village in the state’s Akinyele Local Government Area were the Baales who were installed.
High Chief (Senator) Sharafadeen Alli, speaking on behalf of Ibadanland’s Ekarun Balogun, thanked the recently appointed traditional title holders for being deemed deserving of the titles.
Since you are the Olubadan of Ibadanland’s authorized representatives, it is your responsibility to maintain peace in your areas since without it, no significant progress can be made.
Olubadan cautioned, “Refrain from any actions that could damage the standing of the traditional institution, such as stealing land, disobeying elders in your families, or mistreating family members you represent.”
Members of the Olubadan Advisory Council, Taofik Arapaja, the former deputy governor of the state, as well as traditional leaders, religious leaders, business magnates, and well-wishers, were among the dignitaries present.
