In the upcoming local elections, Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr. Mo, has formally been announced as the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
At the ADC Secretariat in Area 2, Garki, Dr. Paul spoke to a varied group of supporters, party leaders, civil society activists, and youth representatives. He said he was prepared to spearhead a new era of grassroots-driven governance in the most important municipality in the capital.
“Political godfathers are not the reason I am here. I’m not here to provide seat warming. To roaring acclaim, he declared, “I am here because AMAC is broken, and together, we must fix it.”
After weeks of consultations in every ward of the council, from Karu to Kabusa, Jikwoyi to Garki, Dr. Paul emerged as a symbol of community-first leadership and a voice for the marginalized.
He criticized years of bad governance in his acceptance speech, “The Mandate of the People, The Moment for Change,” and bemoaned the breakdown of public services like markets, schools, and health facilities.
“The wait is ended. This isn’t your typical campaign. For AMAC, this is a moment of truth, a mission of hope, and a movement of conscience,” he said.
He promised broad improvements to restore citizens’ dignity and service delivery, emphasizing:
Fully functional public primary schools, skill acquisition hubs in every ward, among others.
Dr. Paul also called on young people, women, and elders across AMAC to take ownership of the political process, urging them to register, organize, vote, and defend their votes.
To his opponents, he offered a challenge of ideas over insults: “Let’s debate policies, not spread fear. Let the people decide freely.”
He also urged the media and civil society to keep a careful eye on the process and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain its impartiality.
“Politics as usual is not happening here. This is a neglect referendum. And we’ll respond emphatically on election day,” he declared.
Paul reiterated his dedication to a leadership style based on service, openness, and people-driven development while thanking the ADC leadership for their support.
He came to the conclusion, “Let it be said that AMAC has risen—not because of one man, but because the people chose to believe again.”
