The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, was hit with ₦100,000 in fees after the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, rejected two of his arguments.
On May 21, 2025, a three-member Court of Appeal panel led by Justice Hamman Barka rejected the motions in response to the appeal’s withdrawal request.
Akpabio was named as the appellant in the motions, which were dated March 3, 2025, and March 25, 2025, and were designated CV/395/M1/2025 and CV/395/M2/2025.
Senator Neda Imasuem, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and the Senate Clerk of the National Assembly were the respondents.
“An order of this Honourable Court enlarging the time within which the Appellant/Applicant may seek leave to appeal against the decision of the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025 between Senator Natasha AkpotiUduaghan v. Clerk of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and 3 Others (Coram: Honourable Justice Obiora Atuegwu Egwuatu) delivered on March 10, 2025 on grounds of mixed law and fact as contained in the proposed Notice of Appeal,” Akpabio requested in the appeal.
On the grounds of mixed law and fact, as stated in the proposed Notice of Appeal attached as Exhibit B, this Honorable Court has granted permission to the Appellant/Applicant to appeal the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division’s decision in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025 between Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan v. Clerk of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and 3 Others (Coram: Honorable Justice | Obiora Egwuatu) rendered on March 10, 2025.
The time frame for the appellant/applicant to file their notice of appeal against the Federal High Court’s Abuja Judicial Division’s ruling in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025 between Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan and the Clerk of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and three others has been extended by this Honorable Court’s order. On March 10, 2025, Hon. Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the speech.
“An order of this Honorable Court halting further proceedings in Suit No: FCH/ABJ/CS/384/2025 between Senator Natasha AkpotiUduaghan v. Clerk of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and 3 Others.” (Coram: Honorable Justice Obiora Egwuatu) Until the Appellant/Applicant’s appeal is heard and decided by this Honorable Court.
In its decision, the court declared that the two motions submitted on March 20 and 25, 2025, were struck out and that the application to withdraw them was allowed.
₦100,000 in costs are given to the first respondent. To be removed is Appeal No. CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/395M/2025.
