A civil society organization, the Centre for Leadership Training, has urged Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, to allow the court to make a final decision on her suspension before attempting to resume duties at the National Assembly.
Akpoti-Uduaghan is currently serving a suspension imposed on her by the Senate.
The senator had in a letter to the National Assembly disclosed her intention to return to plenary and other Senate activities, claiming that her six-month suspension imposed earlier in the year had elapsed.
Nonetheless, the Senate had made it clear that it would wait for the legal proceedings to be finished before reviewing the senator’s suspension.
The Nigerian Senate stated in a letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Acting Clerk of the National Assembly, that it would handle the case in accordance with the law and due process.
The suspension, which went into effect on Thursday, March 6, 2025, is still being litigated at the Court of Appeal, the clerk stated in the letter, insisting that the case is still under judicial review.”The subject matter of your suspension is currently before the Court of Appeal,” the letter to Akpoti-Uduaghan stated. Therefore, the matter is still under judicial review, and this office is unable to take any administrative action to facilitate your resumption until the court’s decision is finalized and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in light of the Court’s ruling. The clerk further stated that after the legal proceedings are over and the case is formally reviewed, the Senate will appropriately communicate its decision.
