Network upgrades initiated by Globacom

Telecommunication company Globacom has launched a nationwide network upgrade to enhance its customers’ experience. In a statement, the firm emphasized the importance of improving customer experience, referencing the recent tariff hike approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).The firm stated that the network upgrade has involved the installation of new base stations to serve new areas and densification efforts to improve coverage in regions with growing populations. It pointed out that the relocation of its fibre infrastructure will occur in locations such as Auchi-Okene, Benin-Ekpoma, Lafia-Akwanga, Minna-Abuja, and Funtua-Gusau.

It ascribed the move to road building in these zones and acts of vandalism, noting that this has affected network quality in those regions.

“To provide customers with best-in-class services, we made the decision to relocate the fibres at great expense. Many of these fibres had suffered vandalism due to uncoordinated road construction activities.

“The telco remains worried that intentional sabotage of network equipment persists, despite the fact that telecoms architecture has been classified as vital national infrastructure. This necessitates additional endeavor to halt it immediately
