Seven people have been taken into custody by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in relation to alleged cattle rustling, damage, and recovered stolen property in Jigawa State.
This was revealed on Thursday night during the suspects’ parading at the NSCDC’s Jigawa State Command in the state capital of Dutse.
The NSCDC Commandant, Bawa Boddinga, stated that the suspects were taken into custody during a recent operation while displaying them alongside the recovered objects that were discovered in their hands.
He explained that the suspects were detained on suspicion of engaging in vandalism and cattle rustling throughout the state.
The Commandant added that among the apprehended suspects are Adamu Hassan, 40, from Kantamari village in Kaugama LGA, and Hassan Adamu, 31, from Malam-Madori.
He further disclosed that seven additional individuals were arrested in relation to the destruction of important assets in Danmanomi village, which is located in the Gumel Local Government Area.
“Until the investigation is finished, these suspects, who range in age from 14 to 35, will not be identified by name,” he continued.
Boddinga reported that six goats, four sheep, and one calf were among the stolen livestock recovered as a result of the operation.Additionally, the command also recovered and confiscated various items, such as a motorcycle, bus, hoes, diggers, and shovels, as well as harmful items like bows and arrows in possession of the arrested suspects.
Boddinga emphasised the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Jigawa State.
He urged law-abiding citizens to cooperate with the agency to maintain peace and order across the state.
The Commandant therefore directed his divisional inspectors and area commanders to intensify efforts against crimes across nooks and crannies in the state.
He mentioned further that, “With the support of other security agencies and stakeholders, I’m confident that the state will become safer for all residents.
However, Boddinga vowed to make Jigawa State a zero-crime state, promising to tackle various security challenges head-on.
He specifically mentioned cracking down on drug peddlers and cattle rustlers, who have been a menace to the state’s peace.
Furthermore, the NSCDC Commandant gave the public the assurance that the suspects would be held accountable for their actions, adding that the agency has started investigations to determine each suspect’s level of involvement and will soon bring them to trial.
The NSCDC is investigating the degree of the suspects’ involvement in the alleged offenses after they were apprehended in various locations throughout the state.
He said, “The agency is also looking into potential links between the suspects and other criminal elements in the state.”
