Northern Nigeria has been characterized as tactically and physically defeated by social commentator Mahdi Shehu. He attributed the current crises in the region to societal flaws, shortsightedness, and greed.
Shehu made the case in a Sunday post on X that some Northerners mortgaged the North for their own selfish ends in order to stay comfortable, which he said led to what he called an inevitable defeat.
Because of the preventable ignorance and shortsightedness of the majority of Northerners, the defeat was inevitable,” he wrote.
“A society is doomed to failure if its elders are primarily cowardly, selfish, or unduly preoccupied with surviving. In Northern society, this is true. A society enters a coma from which it may never emerge when its mornings, afternoons, and nights are spent asleep or inactive. The North is described in this way as well.
Given the extent of hunger in the North, the number of deaths from intentional murder, wanton murder, arson, starvation, malnutrition, and all types of diseases is rising, and the infrastructure is completely collapsing.
