El-Kanemi Warriors have been fined ₦3.5 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League due to crowd control issues that arose during their Matchday 34 game against Ikorodu City in Maiduguri.
Furthermore, the NPFL has announced that the stadium will be closed to fans for the rest of the 2024-2025 season, as stated on the league’s official website on Wednesday, April 23
Disciplinary action has been taken due to incidents involving El-Kanemi Warriors’ supporters vandalizing the visiting team’s vehicle and throwing objects onto the pitch. These actions are considered serious violations of the league’s code of conduct.
The NPFL’s statement specified that El-Kanemi Warriors were punished for not guaranteeing the safety and proper behavior of their fans during the match.
El-Kanemi Warriors were confronted with multiple specific allegations, such as failing to implement sufficient security measures that permitted unauthorized entry into restricted zones and interference with match officials.
El-Kanemi Warriors will incur a fine of N1 million for each of the following infractions: inadequate security, spectators throwing objects onto the field, and improper behavior by fans resulting in damage to the away team’s vehicle.
Furthermore, the club must pay Ikorodu City ₦500,000 for the damage inflicted on their vehicle. In order to improve security on future match days, the club needs to adopt better crowd control measures and submit these plans to the NPFL within a week and a half of workdays.
In other news, Kennedy Boboye, the head coach of Akwa United, conveyed his optimism regarding his team’s prospects of avoiding relegation this season.
With 38 points from 34 matches, Akwa United is currently in 18th place, having recorded 10 victories, eight draws, and 16 losses.
Boboye is sure that his team can take advantage of the points dropped by their rivals in the relegation zone to achieve their goal.
After the recent win against Nasarawa United, Boboye remarked, “We will keep striving to secure our standing and prevent relegation.” “Luckily, our nearest rivals have dropped points, which presents us with a great chance to accumulate points on our home turf.”
In their upcoming Matchday 35 clash this weekend, Akwa United will go up against Ikorodu City.
