Following Enyimba Football Club of Aba’s 3-2 victory over Bendel Insurance in the Nigerian Professional Football League, or NPFL, on Sunday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti responded.
In Aba, the Peoples Elephants overcame a goal deficit to defeat Benin’s Bendel Insurance 3-2.
Abiodun Joseph, Kalu Nweke, and Chidera Michael scored goals in the 18th, 66th, and 69th minutes to give Enyimba the most points possible.
In the second minute, Insurance seized the lead, momentarily quieting the boisterous Aba crowd.
However, with the support of Governor Alex Otti, a few members of his cabinet, and a sizable home crowd, Enyimba retaliated and Abiodun Joseph equalized in the eighteenth minute.
Insurance seized the lead again in the 59th minute, but Kalu Nweke’s penalty kick in the 66th minute gave Enyimba another equalizer.
Chidera Michael’s strike in the 69th minute was the game-changing moment for Enyimba.
Enyimba now leads the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) standings with 11 points from five games as a result of the victory.
On X, Otti said, “I had the privilege of watching the exciting Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between Bendel Insurance of Benin and Enyimba Football Club of Aba. Enyimba fought back from behind twice to earn a well-earned victory, taking all three points and moving up to the top of the NPFL table in a game that put their tenacity and grit to the test.
“I joined the players in the dressing room to give them words of support during halftime. Our guys answered with passion and tenacity, presenting an impressive self-report and winning in the end.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of our devoted supporters who came out in force to cheer on our squad. The arena was positively energized by your energy. Enyimba genuinely lived up to its moniker as the People’s Elephant thanks to your steadfast support.
Additionally, I would like to thank Bendel Insurance, our visitors, for their great bravery and sportsmanship during the game.
“We would especially want to thank the coaching staff, the entire Enyimba FC board, and its esteemed chairman, Kanu Nwankwo (Papillo), for their dedication to quality and leadership.
“Today, Enyimba FC demonstrated our people’s genuine “can-do” attitude. We keep demonstrating on and off the field that excellence is always achievable with faith and unity.
