Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the late Awujale of Ijebuland, will be buried today, July 14, 2025, according to a statement from the Ogun State Government.
Tokunbo Talabi, the Secretary to the State Government, said in a statement that the last ceremonies will take place at Ogbagba Court in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, July 13, the revered king died at the age of ninety-one.
During this time, the government also asked citizens to offer prayers for his family.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid tribute to the late Awujale on Sunday, calling him one of Nigeria’s most admired traditional leaders who, for more than 65 years, served his people with honor and a strong sense of duty.
He claimed that under Oba Adetona’s leadership, Ijebuland and the country as a whole saw advancement and unification.
President Tinubu added that the king was a smart, honest leader whose contributions to administration and education will never be forgotten, as well as a voice of reason in times of crisis.
