On the day of the transfer deadline, Jason Sancho, a winger for Manchester United, prevented the team from acquiring Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
Fabrizio Romano claims that because both teams value the two players at about £25 million, the Red Devils were eager to get Martinez from Aston Villa in a straight swap deal involving Sancho.
However, any hopes of United and Aston Villa reaching an incredible trade agreement were dashed when Sancho chose to leave Old Trafford on loan rather than permanently.
Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, has no intentions for Sancho this season.
The former Dortmund player sought to sign a permanent contract with the Premier League west London team after spending the previous season on loan at Chelsea.
However, the Blues were unable to reach an agreement with the 25-year-old and ultimately agreed to pay a £5 million penalty to send him back to United.
After that, Sancho had discussions with a number of Serie A teams until Aston Villa made a last-minute bid to sign him on loan.
Meanwhile, Senne Lammens, a Belgian goalkeeper from Royal Antwerp, has already joined Manchester United.
