Senior Nigeria Police Force officials have been ordered by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu to continue being proactive, intelligence-driven, and adaptable in tackling the country’s changing security problems.

The allegation was made on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, during the Nigeria Police Force’s monthly meeting with strategic top officials at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Center, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers convened for the purpose of reviewing the country’s security situation and evaluating current policing tactics.

The Inspector-General of Police told the officers that the nation still faces a number of security risks, including kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, banditry, cult-related violence, farmer-herder conflicts, and cyber-enabled crimes. In order to keep the Force abreast of new criminal threats, he underlined the necessity of better coordination, greater leadership, and efficient operational responses.

Eight suspected terrorists, 55 abduction suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects, and 42 suspected cultists have all been apprehended since the Force’s previous conference in May 2026, according to the IGP.

He also disclosed that 28 stolen vehicles, 114 firearms, and 843 rounds of ammunition were recovered during various operations across the nation, while 88 kidnapped victims were rescued.

Additionally, the Inspector-General instructed Commissioners of Police across the country to enhance intelligence collection, expand community policing programs, and establish regular stakeholder engagements with market associations, transport unions, youth organizations, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other important community stakeholders. He emphasized that community cooperation and public confidence are still essential for efficient law enforcement and crime prevention.
