Oshoma: INEC should do more than just defend petitions.

Legal expert Liborous Oshoma is calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do more than just defend election outcomes in court; he wants them to actively prosecute electoral offenders.
Speaking on Arise Television on Wednesday, Oshoma argued that if INEC truly wants to end the lengthy court battles over elections, it must enforce transparency and take strong action against those who break electoral laws.
He acknowledged the recent pledge by the current INEC Chairman to improve election credibility and reduce litigation, calling it a “good intention” that needs to become more than just talk.
Oshoma stated that the ultimate goal is a Nigeria where election winners are decided by voters, not judges. “We all want to see the day INEC will announce results, and everybody will shake hands and go home. But it is beyond rhetoric. We’ve heard similar promises before from past chairmen,” he concluded.
