According to Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, healthcare is a crucial factor in determining both economic growth and national well-being, but only a These include building a new general hospital in Ikom, upgrading the dialysis facilities in Calabar and Ogoja, and remodeling and equipping 82 primary health centers throughout Cross River.
Additional significant events include the complete accreditation of four nursing and midwifery colleges, the furnishing of the Fistula Center in Calabar, and the renovation of the facilities in Akpabuyo, Ukem Hospital in Odukpani, and Moriund College Hospital in Akamkpa.
In addition to an operational State Health Insurance Scheme, the governor stated that the Sweet Prince Palliative Healthcare Program has provided free services to senior citizens, children under five, and pregnant women.
He stated that medical oxygen plants are being built in Calabar and Ogoja in collaboration with UNICEF.
Speaking at the event, Health Commissioner Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk praised Governor Otu for putting the public’s health first in a way that genuinely embodies his People First philosophy.
Speaking, Hilary Bisong, the chairman of the House Committee on Health, emphasized that a people’s health is still their greatest asset and that it should be given top priority.
He concurred that between 2023 and 2025, Otu’s administration made notable progress in the health sector, especially in reviving primary healthcare facilities and guaranteeing that rural residents have access to necessary services.
