Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP), has urged the people of the Niger Delta to back President Bola Tinubu’s reelection as president by the South-South All Progressives Congress (APC).
At a meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, South-South APC leaders and governors decided to run President Tinubu alone in the 2027 presidential contest.
In response to the news, Dr. Otuaro stated that the support was a legitimate expression of gratitude for Tinubu’s “unwavering commitment to the region.”
He mentioned that on July 5, 2025, APC leaders from the states of Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom had previously gathered in Benin and unanimously supported President Tinubu for a second term in power.
The President’s “strategic developmental interventions” around the region were praised by Otuaro. Key appointments, significant infrastructure projects, the creation of new institutions, and increased funding for already-existing bodies are some of these, he said.
Otuaro claimed that the Niger Delta and the South-South as a whole have prospered under the President’s well-executed Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further argued that Tinubu’s legislative actions, such as signing into law bills establishing the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoniland, and the South-South Development Commission, demonstrate his good faith towards the region. He also cited increased support for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and the PAP as further evidence.
“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has not hidden his intention to develop the South-South and the Niger Delta, which explains why he has given this level of attention to the Lagos-Calabar Expressway,” Otuaro said.
He called on the people of the South-South to align with the decision of their political leaders in order to continue attracting meaningful development under what he described as “a listening leader.”
Otuaro also cautioned the region’s youths, particularly beneficiaries of the PAP, against being used by politicians with ulterior motives.
“I also advise the region’s youths and delegates of the Presidential Amnesty Program not to allow themselves to be used by politicians with intentions that are detrimental to the Niger Delta’s interests,” he said.
“I am aware that a lot of people will soon saturate our streets with their dishonest behavior in an attempt to win votes. We are all able to vouch for the President’s actions, and we know enough to know who genuinely wants our region to prosper.
The PAP administrator came to the conclusion that “this President deserves our continued support and contribution to his re-election in 2027.”
