The Igbo Political Network (IPN), a socio-political organization, announced on Tuesday that it has deployed over 5,000 independent observers (IOs) to monitor the Saturday, November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship election for irregularities.
IPN President Alex Okemiri, speaking in Abakaliki, stressed that the Anambra poll is a historic and crucial political event for the entire South-East region, stating that political leaders from all five Igbo states view it as a major test for the people’s political history.
Okemiri highlighted the group’s commitment since 2015 to ensuring fair political activity, preventing thuggery, making votes count, and eliminating manipulation by external forces. He explained that deploying the 5,000 observers—funded through individual contributions despite the tough economy—is meant to guarantee the election outcome truly reflects the will of the people and to counter the widespread insinuation that the South-East is prone to political violence.
The IPN leader issued a “marching order” to the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, urging him to shun favoritism, be unbiased, and ensure every vote is counted. Okemiri framed the Anambra poll as the new Chairman’s first major national integrity test ahead of the 2027 general elections. He warned that Igbos are keenly watching the process and that the Chairman must avoid any actions that could inflame public anger or violence.
Finally, the group appealed to all security agencies to conduct themselves professionally and ethically, confirming that the IPN is prepared to challenge any acts of vote-buying or intimidation during the exercise.
