The Lagos State Police Command has deployed officers to strategic areas, particularly the Third Mainland Bridge, following intelligence reports of a planned protest by youths from the Oworonshoki area.
The planned protest is reportedly a reaction to the recent demolition of structures in the waterside community, which has previously triggered similar demonstrations and traffic disruption on the major bridge.
In a statement released in the early hours of Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police assured residents that robust security measures are in place to maintain law and order across the state.
Adebisi confirmed the Command’s awareness of “information circulating regarding a planned disruption on the Third Mainland Bridge by some youths in the Oworonshoki area.”
She stated that officers have been fully mobilized to achieve the following objectives:
* Safeguard all road users.
* Prevent any obstruction of vehicular movement.
* Ensure the safety of lives and property.
The spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and carry out their normal activities without fear, noting that police personnel are strategically positioned for a prompt response to any potential security threat. Adebisi asked the public to “cooperate with security personnel carrying out their duties,” while the Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the populace and ensuring the free flow of traffic.
