The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, asserted his independence by declaring that he “cannot be pocketed by anybody.”
Wike made this remark during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday night, where he dismissed claims that he is unhappy with the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
He challenged the premise of the question, stating: “What do you mean that I’m not happy for Makinde to be a presidential candidate? Let’s not trivialize things.”
Wike suggested that presidential ambition requires more than academic qualifications (“it’s not about being a Ph.D. holder, an engineer, or a lawyer”). He argued that if Makinde truly wanted to be the PDP’s presidential candidate, he would not allow the party to face its current level of crisis.
To underscore his un-pocketable nature, Wike advised the interviewer to: “Ask Fayose; he knows. You must know your people: those who will accept certain things and those who will not.”
