Pensioners threaten a nationwide “naked protest” over unpaid benefits.

According to the Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria, if the government does not enact palliatives and pension increases, it will launch a nationwide naked protest on October 6.

This was said at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday by Mukaila Ogunbote, the coalition’s national chairman.

According to him, pensioners had given the government until September to pay palliatives, increments, and arrears.

He said that the pensioners would have no option but to stage a nationwide naked protest on October 6 if nothing was done.

The national chairman of the coalition added that the demonstration would symbolize government shortcomings and bring the complaints of pensioners to the public’s attention.

He recalled that President Bola Tinubu had authorized N25,000 for pensioners and N35,000 for workers as palliatives in October 2023.

When we asked, we were informed that the 2024 and 2025 budgets did not include our N32,000 increase. “This is unfair,” Ogunbote said.
