In order to fill labor shortages and lessen the misuse of expatriate quota in the aviation industry, Nigerian airlines have been urged by the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) to give priority to the training and development of young pilots and engineers.
The request was made by NAAPE President Comrade Galadima Abednego at a briefing held in Lagos to commemorate the association’s 40th anniversary and the release of its new logo.
Abednego described the existing practice of stealing experienced employees from one airline to another as unsustainable and stated that airlines need to establish a framework to support type-rating and specialized training for young professionals.He recalled how regular training opportunities helped develop new talent during the Nigeria Airways era, but the current structure makes it difficult for many graduates to finance their professional advancement.
