Plateau: After Gen. Sura defected from the PDP to the APC, loyalists disowned him.

Loyalists of former Plateau governorship aspirant, Brigadier General John Sura (Rtd), have publicly severed ties with him following his recent move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Operating under the banner of the Liberation Movement, the former supporters, coordinated by Nathaniel Dauda Kyaks, stated on Tuesday that Sura’s defection was driven by personal ambition rather than the collective interests of those who stood by him.
Kyaks described Sura’s unannounced exit as a “shocking act of betrayal” against Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the PDP, pointing out that they only learned of his resignation via social media. They asserted their continued and absolute loyalty to the PDP and Governor Mutfwang.
The statement noted that Sura, who is from the same local government as Mutfwang, had been shown grace: the Governor made him the Director General of his 2023 campaign team after Sura lost the primary. Post-election, Mutfwang extended a hand of friendship by giving Sura the role of Secretary for the State IDP Committee. Furthermore, the Governor requested Sura to submit names of his loyalists for government inclusion, a request Sura never fulfilled before resigning, confirming his decision was “personal, not collective.”
The former supporters also accused Sura of abandoning them for nearly two years after the PDP primaries. They concluded by respecting his right to leave but insisted his “journey to the APC is his alone,” reaffirming their firm support for Governor Mutfwang and the PDP.
It seems loyalty has its limits, especially when a political move comes as a surprise Facebook announcement!
