According to the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), over 500 people, including women and children, have been buried in some communities in Plateau State’s Mangu Local Government Area over the last two years as a result of Fulani militia attacks. Dr. Stanley Kavwam, Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Forum, stated during an interview with a television station in Jos on Tuesday that the alarming number of deaths recorded in Mangu LGA in the last two years has been unprecedented, as different communities have continued to bury their loved ones killed by the marauders.
Mangu native Kavwam pointed out that the murderers, who are frequently referred to as unidentified gunmen, are actually Fulani militias and herdsmen. They have also caused the displacement of 164 local communities, which they have taken over and renamed.
The MBF scribe also bemoaned the lack of adequate media coverage of the council’s killings and urged the state’s media to take all necessary steps to intensify the situation.
In what he called “selective justice,” he voiced concerns about the Nigerian military’s apparent inability to handle the mass murders in Plateau State while quickly quelling agitations in other states.
According to Kavwam, the indoctrination of young people in the North is the driving force behind the jihadist agenda behind the murders in the Plateau and the Middle Belt. He underlined that there would be no end in sight to the ongoing killings unless these young people were empowered with the proper education.
He also attacked members of the elite class, such as senators, governors, politicians, and business leaders, for taking advantage of the general public’s ignorance and illiteracy.
