Preparations for the 2025 District Little League Baseball and Softball Major Division Tournament have received a major boost as two long-standing partners—Play Global and Mrs. Ronke Champion-Adeyemi—have made significant financial contributions to support this year’s edition.
Play Global, an American organisation dedicated to the development of grassroots baseball across Africa, has donated $1,000 to the tournament.
The organisation has been a consistent supporter of Little League activities in Nigeria and continues to strengthen youth participation through technical and developmental backing.
In addition, veteran sports philanthropist Mrs. Ronke Champion-Adeyemi has contributed ₦1.5 million toward the event.
For over 16 years, she has remained the most reliable individual sponsor of Little League baseball in Nigeria, backing several developmental initiatives across the country.
The District Tournament, scheduled for December 18–23, 2025, at the International School, University of Ibadan, will feature teams from Ara in Osun State, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, and Ibadan.
Additional teams from other regions are expected to join once adequate funding is secured.
A total of 10 Major Division teams, with players aged 10 to 12, are projected to compete.
A major highlight of this year’s edition is the participation of the Major Baseball Team from the Republic of Benin, which will enable the district to crown the Champion of West Africa.
Despite the generous contributions received so far, the organisers say more support is needed to cover the welfare, nutrition, accommodation, and logistics of the young athletes during the tournament.
The District Administration is calling on individuals, organisations, and corporate bodies to partner with them in ensuring a successful and impactful event for the children.
