The Plateau State government has distanced itself from an open letter allegedly written by the Plateau United Front (PUF) and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The letter was signed by Sargwak Haruna, who claims to be the group’s president.
The open letter caused a rift between the leaders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), with each party accusing the other of sending a disparaging letter to the president before his visit to the state to attend the funeral of Prof. Yilwatda Nentawe, the APC National Chairman.
In a statement outlining the state government’s stance, Dr. Gyang Bere, the Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, called the group “faceless and amorphous” and said the government was unaware of it because it was not a registered organization.
“Mischievous, ill-motivated, and not representing the views of the governor, the government, or indeed any patriotic Plateau citizen committed to peace, unity, and mutual respect,” Bere said of the “fake open letter.”
The governor’s spokesperson claims that even a casual reader would conclude that the letter’s tone, content, and spirit convey the group sponsors’ desperation, which is far less polite and respectful than how Governor Mutfwang and his administration interact with the President and other distinguished members of our country.
In order to find long-term solutions to the insecurity that has plagued Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang has continuously recognized and valued the outstanding interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the First Lady, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Federal Government, the statement stated.
Bere emphasized that Mutfwang has expressed gratitude on a number of forums.
It is widely known and documented that President Tinubu has appointed competent Plateau sons and daughters to important national positions.
It is well known that the governor has appealed to all peace-loving Plateau residents who are involved in various federal positions to put peace, unity, and service ahead of political considerations.
In order for the anonymous authors and their backers to be subject to the full force of the law, we therefore implore the public to ignore the vile fabrications in the so-called open letter and urge security agencies to look into and expose them.
“The good and law-abiding people of Plateau State, along with Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, look forward to welcoming His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to Plateau whenever he chooses,” Bere continued.
