The funeral arrangements for former Inspector-General of Police Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 69, have been made public by the Nigeria Police Force.
As the 18th indigenous IGP of the country, Arase received a lot of recognition for his leadership, charity, and support of police reforms both during and after his term.
The ceremonies will start in Abuja on September 24 with a Day of Tribute at the Nigeria Police Resource Center, Jabi, according to a statement issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer.
On September 26, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama will host a requiem mass. Before the remains is transferred to Benin City, Edo State, a lying-in-state is scheduled for September 27 at his residence in Abuja.
On September 29, there will be a candlelight stroll in his hometown of Sabongida-Ora.
The Nigerian Bar Association and the Edo State Judiciary will have a final court session at the Edo State High Court in Benin on October 2.
On the same day, a family lying-in-state and a singing service will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Airport Road.
On October 3, St. Paul’s Catholic Church will host the funeral liturgy. He will thereafter be buried at his Benin City home, and there will be a reception at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub.
On October 5, a Thanksgiving liturgy will mark the end of the ceremonies. With a PhD in law and the national honor of CFR, Dr. Arase was named Inspector-General in April 2015 and maintained the position until June 2016.
After a brief illness, he died at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja on August 31st, 2025.
