In the past month, the Kano Police Command has taken 157 suspects into custody for violent crimes such as thuggery and armed robbery.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Ibrahim Bakori, the state police commissioner, revealed the information while highlighting the accomplishments since taking up his position as CP in Kano State.
He noted that the proactive and coordinated efforts by the command had yielded favorable results as the victories reported included the breakthroughs that led to the liquidation of criminal networks that specialized in smuggling firearms into the state.
As a result of the criminal networks’ destruction, 19 fake revolver guns with 114 live and six spent rounds were found, along with suspected tramadol tablets valued at N150 million.
“A total of 157 suspects involved in violent crimes such as theft, armed robbery, thuggery (Fadan Daba), and illicit drug dealings have been arrested since March 17, 2025, and firearms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen property have been recovered from them,” he stated.
Additionally, he revealed that 24 suspected armed robbers, 14 suspected drug traffickers, seven suspected auto thieves, five suspected motorbike thieves, 28 suspected thieves, and 79 suspected bullies were among those arrested during that time. (Daba Yan)
He added that 19 fake revolver rifles, one fake handgun, and English pistols were among the goods found on the suspects.
In addition, there are 22 bottles of sucking and dying, two cars, two tricycles, three motorbikes, 117 live cartridges, six expended cartridges, and 11 live ammunition.
In addition, 260 pieces of exol tablets, 69 sachets, 57 cutlasses, 71 sharp knives, 15 sharp irons, seven scissors, two axes, and one bow were found among the suspects.
He stated that in order to prevent crimes and uphold law and order and guarantee that peace remains in the state, the command intends to carry out a number of community-based engagements and intelligence-led operations at key areas throughout the state.
