An investigation into the unexplained deaths of two young men whose bodies were found in a canal along the LASU-Igando Road in Iba, Lagos, has been opened by the Lagos State Police Command.
According to reports, the bodies were discovered in the wee hours of Tuesday, bound, with blue garbage bags securely fastened around their necks and their hands tied behind them.
Suspicion that the victims may have been tortured and suffocated before being dumped has been heightened by the unsettling scene.
The killings had ritualistic overtones, according to a local lawyer who asked not to be named because of the delicate nature of the case.
On Tuesday, I saw people congregating near the bridge as I was walking by it. The fact that the corpses were clean led me to believe that they had been killed somewhere else before being disposed of. The bags around their necks appeared to have been purposefully tightened, and their hands were bound behind them. “It definitely indicates torture,” the resident stated.
Babaseyi Oluseyi, the Lagos State Police Command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and stated that the bodies had been recovered and taken to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
In order to identify the victims and determine the cause of their deaths, the command has begun conducting investigations, Oluseyi said.
Last week, five bodies were found along a riverbank in Oreta, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, as reported by BASEMEDIA. Those deaths were later connected to cult conflicts by police investigations.
