Police thwart bomb attack on Lady Gaga concert in Brazil, arresting two

Two people have been arrested after police foiled a planned bombing at a Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro Brazil on Saturday night.

The Brazilian police said the plan was orchestrated by a group promoting hate speech and the radicalisation of teenagers.

According to the authorities, the suspects were targeting LGBTQ+ people at Gaga’s record-breaking concert at Copacabana Beach, which drew more than 2 million attendees.

“They were clearly saying that they were planning an attack at Lady Gaga’s concert motivated by sexual orientation,” Felipe Cury, secretary of the Rio police, told a press conference on Sunday.

The police refrained from commenting on the purported scheme at the time in order to “avoid panic” and “the distortion of information.”

Security measures at Saturday’s concert were rigorous, with 5,200 military and police personnel stationed at the beach where fans reveled in the pop singer’s classic tracks, including ‘Born This Way,’ which became an LGBTQ anthem following its 2011 release.

Lady Gaga’s team has responded to the intended assault, stating it learned of it through media reports.

The team’s spokesperson stated, “Before and during the performance, there were no known safety issues or communications from law enforcement or authorities to Lady Gaga about potential risks.”

The representative further stated that the “team collaborated closely with law enforcement during the planning and execution of the concert, and all parties were assured of the effectiveness of the safety measures implemented.
