Stephen Abiodun Ojo, a former candidate for deputy governor of Ekiti State for the now-defunct All Nigerian Peoples’ Party (ANPP), has joined the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
According to Naija News, Ojo and 3,000 ANPP members from over the state were greeted Thursday in Ilupeju-Ekiti, which is part of the Oye local government area, by Segun Dipe, the Ekiti APC Publicity Secretary.
Ojo said in a statement on behalf of the new members that the notable accomplishments and advancements made under Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s leadership served as the impetus for their decision to join the APC.
It feels like home, and one is compelled to board a progressive train in order to fulfill their obligation to support the advancement of the state and the party. I am delighted to be a member of his excellency’s train, and I would like to reassure the party of my love, devotion, and commitment to the BAO’s second term agenda.
He continued, “I have joined the APC with more than 3,000 followers, and I can confidently declare that the party is on course to win the next guber election with a landslide victory.”
The APC Publicity Secretary greeted the defectors and congratulated them on their astute decision to join the party.
Dipe guaranteed the defectors that they would be treated fairly, emphasizing that the APC is an inclusive party that offers an equal opportunity for all members, whether they are newcomers or long-standing members.
“On behalf of the National Chairman of our great party, APC, I welcome you and your followers to this great party. I want to assure you that you have come to the right party and the welfarism of you and your followers remains our top priority.
“The progressives party is your home and you can be rest assured our party is on course for the repositioning of the state,” Dipe said.
In his remark, former Chairman of the party and Elder statesman, High Chief Jide Awe, assured the decampees of equal opportunities in the party.
The Special Adviser on political matters to the Governor said that the defection was a major boost to the APC ahead of the 2026 governorship, saying there was no opposition to the broom party in Ekiti.
“Otunba Stephen Abiodun Ojo is a golden name and with what we see here today, the acceptance is massive and it is a testament to the fact that he has a good reputation in his community and such personality is a good addition to our great party,” he added.
