Professionals Should Prepare for the New Tax Regime, CITN Charges

Following the passage of four historic fiscal laws earlier this year, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has urged tax professionals to prepare for the reality of Nigeria’s changing tax environment. The Institute’s president, Mr. Innocent C. Ohagwa, spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Virtual Legal Practitioners’ Conversion Training Program and urged practitioners, especially those in the legal and financial sectors, to improve their technical competence and gain a deeper understanding of the nation’s new tax framework in light of the extensive reforms. According to him, the recently enacted legislation is the most extensive tax reform program in Nigerian history. It unified several tax laws, made compliance easier, and improved institutional responsibility. The CITN President further urged participants to actively participate and to take advantage of the Institute’s various learning platforms, such as the Mandatory Professional Training Programme, Annual Tax Conference, and specialised workshops, in order to stay relevant in the quickly evolving fiscal environment. He explained that while the reforms open up new avenues for professional practice, they also place greater responsibility on tax experts to provide accurate advisory services and uphold the highest standards of ethical and technical excellence.
