Nigerian musician Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy from the renowned Nigerian musical group Psquare, posted a message commemorating his older brother Jude Okoye’s release from prison.
Jude Okoye has been involved in major legal issues including accusations of money laundering and financial mismanagement, therefore his release comes at a turbulent moment.
Jude was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in February 2025 after being charged of laundering a stunning amount of money, including over ₦1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
He was released earlier today, April 23, one day before his 48th birthday, after being detained since then.
Paul posted a message on his Instagram page expressing his relief and happiness at his troubled older brother’s release. Rudeboy wrote: “After two months, Jude is finally out. Their attempts to thwart his bail have ultimately failed. @judeengees, welcome home, brother! Happy birthday, too!
The EFCC claims that Jude allegedly acquired various properties and converted foreign currencies using questionable channels, suggesting that the funds involved may have been sourced from illicit activities.
Adding another layer to this fraught situation, Jude also faced additional charges stemming from a petition filed by his younger brother Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P.
Their already tense relationship was further strained when Peter accused Jude of stealing millions of dollars in music royalties for his own benefit and starting an other business while running Psquare without getting his permission.
Jude remained detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre while he awaited bail, a procedure that was hampered by numerous legal setbacks and delays, despite his unwavering insistence on his innocence.
Jude’s return home represents a turning point in a story that continues to garner national attention, even though his legal issues are far from over.
