Even after a remarkable career that lasted almost 20 years, Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal has emphasized that he does not miss the game.
Rafael Nadal received a distinguished Sporting Icon award at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid on Monday.
After his final match in the Davis Cup in Malaga in November, Rafael Nadal formally announced his retirement from professional tennis.
During the awards event, Nadal opened out to reporters about his thoughts after retirement, stating, “The truth is that I don’t miss tennis.” Nothing. I really don’t miss it.
He clarified that he doesn’t miss the sport because he has any bad thoughts about it. He explained, “But not because I got tired of playing tennis or fighting against it, not at all.”
Reflecting on his career, Nadal expressed his gratitude and contentment, saying: “I finished my career happy, and if I could have, I would have carried on because I loved what I was doing.”
He acknowledged the physical toll that competitive tennis had taken on him, stating, “It’s just that when you realize that physically you can’t do it anymore… you try to close that chapter. And I closed it.”
