Representatives Examine Several Bank Charges and Tax Deductions

An Ad-hoc Committee was established by the House of Representatives on Thursday to look into the deduction of taxes and other fees from civil and public workers’ salaries as well as various bank fees that are applied to consumers’ accounts nationwide. According to Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, the committee’s chairman, the panel was formed in response to growing concerns among Nigerian citizens and civil servants regarding the increasing complexity and irregularities in banking fees and tax deductions.Nwogu stated that the House could no longer overlook the annoyances of residents who experience inexplicable deductions from their wages and bank accounts, and he called the inauguration a crucial milestone in the National Assembly’s dedication to openness, justice, and responsibility. The committee was established, he said, to address the concerns of the public and guarantee that banking and government financial operations adhere to the values of equity and justice.
