According to rights campaigner Celestine Akpobari, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas’s (rtrd) tenure as Rivers State’s only administrator is coming to an end.
This statement comes after the state assembly members, governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, who had previously been at odds, agreed to a ceasefire in Rivers State.
This was said by Akpobari, a member of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project’s (HYPREP) Governing Council, during his guest appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief show on Monday.
Additionally, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Senate adopted the N1,485,662,592,442 2025 Rivers State Appropriation Bill, although he cautioned Ibas against handling it.
Additionally, the activist urged President Bola Tinubu to reinstate Governor Fubara and quickly lift the emergency rule that had been placed on the oil-rich state.
