Rivers LG election: Wike explains why the PDP received 328,823 votes in Obio-Akpor

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s minister, has provided an explanation for why PDP candidate Gift Worlu received 328,823 votes to win the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.

Obio-Akpor Local Government Area citizens, according to Wike, take local elections more seriously than national ones.

During his monthly media parley in Abuja on Monday, the Minister made this statement while answering questions.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, or RSIEC, announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner in 20 of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) after Saturday’s elections for chairmanships, according to BASEMEDIA NEWS.

However, the 328,823 votes that Gift Worlu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, received in the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area election sparked a range of responses.

“That’s the problem I have with you people (press),” Wike said, alluding to the PDP candidate’s vote total. Read up on Obio-Akpor LGA’s election history.

You are aware that there will be a higher turnout for local government elections. People come out for councilorship, just like in family or community affairs. Because councilorship involves families or communities, people even take it more seriously than governorship.

“I’m not sure what’s worrying you. Are they concerned that it is against the law, or are you concerned that you don’t think this many people showed up?

“The record was very clear; I was the chairman of that local government.” I broke the record of no one serving two terms in that local government. I was that region’s governor. My record is not yours to take. And no, you couldn’t if there wasn’t anything. The record cannot be beaten.
