Dr. Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has stated that by formalising commodities and warehouse receipts, the capital market can unlock $500 billion worth of dormant agricultural and mineral assets.
Agama, who made this remark at a national workshop of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers in Abuja, mentioned that the initiative would turn them into tradeable securitiesHe remarked that this would assist in diversifying the economy away from the oil and gas sectors and generate wealth for the nation. Agama clarified that the SEC has been granted authority to take firm measures to advance the sector by virtue of the Investments and Securities Act 2025.
