Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request to resume her legislative duties was denied by the Senate, which insisted that her six-month suspension remain in effect until the Court of Appeal’s decision.
The Senate acknowledged receiving the senator’s notice that she would resume on September 4, 2025, which she claimed signified the end of her suspension, in a letter signed by Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly.
However, the Senate noted that her suspension began on March 6, 2025, and that the case is already before the Court of Appeal, so it is sub judice.
The letter said, “The matter is still sub judice, and no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption until the judicial process is concluded.”
In March, Kogi Central senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate for allegedly violating its standing orders.
She has since taken the case to the Court of Appeal, even though the Federal High Court in Abuja maintained the suspension. The letter states that the Senate won’t consider her suspension until the court has rendered a decision.
