Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been charged by Senator Ireti Kingibe with having a “emperor mentality.”
The FCT senator further asserted that Wike had neglected to address important problems that Abuja people face.
Kingibe stated in an interview with Channels Television that she had first chosen to be more subdued in her public criticism of the minister in the hopes that it would promote progress and collaboration for the good of her constituency.
“In the last few months, I gave it some thought and said, ‘Okay, at the end of the day, all I want is for my people to benefit’.
“If being less antagonistic to the minister would help bring development, then fine. So I decided to minimize my public criticism of him. It’s not made any difference, because he has an emperor mentality,” she said.
The senator, however, claimed that her decision had little impact and that Wike had taken her forbearance as a sign of surrender.
At least during my first year as a senator, he paid the salaries of the FCDA personnel, she added. “He just thought, ‘Oh, I’ve got her – end of matter,’ and things are even worse,” she claimed. They aren’t even getting paid anymore.
According to the DAILY POST, Kingibe’s most recent comments exacerbate the longstanding conflicts between her and the FCT minister regarding the capital’s growth and governance.
