John Obi Mikel, a former Chelsea midfielder, has predicted that Arsenal would win the Premier League this year. He claimed that the Gunners’ strong defense this season would be the only reason they won the league after 22 years. With just three goals given up in eight games this season, Mikel Arteta’s team has the greatest defense in the league, according to Mikel. With the players on their back line now, he maintained, Chelsea, his old club, could never contend for the championship. Mikel stated on the Obi One Podcast, “I’ve said it so many times, we [Chelsea] just don’t have good enough defenders.”He pointed out that the side cannot win anything at Stamford Bridge because of the defenders, particularly the center-backs. “With those center-backs, we can’t win the Premier League,” the Blues icon continued. Mikel claims that Arsenal has demonstrated the impact that defenders may have on a team’s ability to win games.
