According to reports, certain Real Madrid players are dissatisfied with manager Xabi Alonso and think he has an exaggerated sense of his own importance. The Athletic claims that they believe Alonso “thinks he’s Pep Guardiola.” The Spaniard’s rigorous training schedule has irritated the mega-money stars. In their 2-1 victory over Barcelona on Sunday, Vinicius Junior publicly clashed with Alonso after he was replaced in the 72nd minute.Alonso and Vinicius’ already strained friendship has become “unsustainable conflict” as a result of the swap. The Brazilian is not the only Madrid player, though, who is doubting his manager’s strategies. The Los Blancos team has found it difficult to adapt to Alonso’s more dictatorial management style after growing accustomed to Carlo Ancelotti’s relaxed approach. Early in his term, Alonso convened a meeting and established a new set of guidelines. While cautioning that no one was assured a starting position, he emphasized the value of being on time, being intense, and being dedicated during training.
