SportUNL: Argentina coach, Scaloni hails ‘great’ Ronaldo after Portugal beat Spain

Argentina coach, Lionel Scaloni, has reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal victory at the UEFA Nations League.

Ronaldo was congratulated by the manager, who remarked that the Portuguese will only cease being great once he retires from the sport.

Ronaldo led Portugal to victory in the competition on Sunday night, netting one of the goals that took the match to extra-time and eventual penalty shootout where Roberto Martinez’s side won 5-3.

The 40-year-old superstar showcased his prowess during the Selecao’s Nations League campaign, netting eight goals in nine matches.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, the coach congratulated the Portuguese football icon, saying via Bolavip, “They [Messi and Ronaldo] will stop being great only when they retire.

“Their presence carries significant importance, transcending their age — not solely through playing. I commend Ronaldo and Portugal; it was an excellent game.

On Tuesday, Argentina will face Colombia in World Cup qualifying matches, featuring Lionel Messi in Scalani’s squad.

The supervisor, aged 39, began the match on June 5 as a substitute when Argentina faced Chile in the World Cup qualifier.
