In team sports, Team Bayelsa dominated the recently finished South-South Zonal elimination for the upcoming National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
With a 250-person contingent, Team Bayelsa competed in ten different sports in the zonal eliminations in Uyo under the direction of Mr. Andrew Aye, Acting Director of Sports.
While the boys overcame Akwa Ibom 18-14 in the first game, defeated Edo 7-1 in the second, and fell to Rivers 17-19 in the extra minutes to qualify, Bayelsa defeated Rivers 17-9 in the women’s basketball tournament before defeating Akwa Ibom State 16-2 to take first place
