The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has announced the creation of 15 additional dioceses, raising the total number nationwide to 176.
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja, the Church’s Communication Officer, Mr. Korede Akintunde, revealed that the new dioceses comprise five full-fledged dioceses and 10 missionary dioceses.
The full-fledged dioceses are Ekiti South, Kalabari, Lagos South West, Omoku, and Ozoro, while the missionary dioceses include Eket, Idanre, Ikom, Keffi, Nasarawa, Ogoja, Oyo South, Oyun, Takum, and Zuru.
Akintunde explained that the decision was taken by the Standing Committee of the General Synod, acting on behalf of the Synod in line with the Constitution and Canons of the Church of Nigeria.
He added that details on the election of bishops, as well as their consecration, inauguration, and enthronement, would be made known in due course.
